Mutant Library at Tension, London, Autumn 2024

Mutant Library

Mutant Library presents an expanded idea of a library whilst also acknowledging an entropic reality. Mutant Library is a response to the changing form of a library, the value of books and their status in a digital age.Mutant Library presents a selection of artworks made using methods of destruction and transformation applied to found objects. Some objects are effectively destroyed and their journey towards entropic disorder speeded up. Others are transformed by the artist's treatment, given a value by their careful preservation. The usually or already discarded object, gaining a new life and its journey towards entropic disorder slowed down. Other objects are transformed in order to reflect on a specific reality. The central supporting structure of metal library shelving used in Mutant Library has been reclaimed from a university science library now re-presented by BOOKEND.
